test, validate and constrain the developed coupled models with acquired meteorological, physiological and isotopic data.

invert/convert the models into adaptive transfer functions.

accomplish sampling of network sites during winter season 2003/2004 and apply, validate and constrain the developed functions by means of the 150year time series calibration network of ring width and stable isotopes.

02.08.2003 Jülicher Nachrichten Newspaper report "What is a tree-ring?" Children from the Kindergarten Welldorf visited TRICE coordinator Gerhard Helle to find answers to all their questions about trees.
03.07.2003 "Global Change" Umweltkolloquium "Global Change" at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, Dr. R.K. Pachauri, President of Iintergovenmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), The Energy and Resource Institute, New Dehli visited the Forschungszentrum Jülich. He gave a lecture on "Scientific and societal challenges from climate change".
26.06.2003 Guest lecture G. Helle gave a guest lecture at the Bundesforschungsanstalt für Holzwirtschaft (BFH), Hamburg. "Stabile Isotope in Bäumen - Methode für ein besseres Verständnis der Physiologie des Baumwachstums"
17.05.2003 Westfälische Nachrichten
Münsteraner Volkszeitung
TRICE process studies are "theme of the week" in the Westfälische Nachrichten and Münsteraner Volkszeitung
29.04.-01.05.2003 ATR Utrecht Presentation of TRICE at the Annual meeting of the Association for Tree-ring Research, ATR in Utrecht, Netherlands
11.02.2003 WDR-broadcast Abridged report of WDR broadcasting corporation on TRICE activities at the StUA Forest lysimeter in St. Arnold
01.02.2003 Start ISONET Start of the EU-Project ISONET ("400 years of Annual Reconstructions of European Climate Variability using a Highly Resolved Isotopic Network",EVK2-2001-00237). This project is coordinated by the Institut für Sedimentäre Systeme of the Forschungszentrum Jülich (Prof. G.H. Schleser). 12 European laboratories work together within the ISONET-project which aims to set-up a European Dendro-isotope network of 24 sites. Therefore, the German Dendro-Isotope network to be established by TRICE is linked to a large scale European network. Within ISONET two German sites of the TRICE network will be expanded in time.
TRICE coordinator G. Helle is "leading scientist" of ISONET work package 2 "Process studies". Within ISONET drought stress and inundation experiments will be procecuted at the StUA forest lysimeter St. Arnold.
13.-15.01.2003 Field campaign Field campaign in Dransfeld near Göttingen (oak, dry site)
2001 – 2002 Summary During the first phase of this joint research project, intra-seasonal tree-physiological and stable C & O isotope measurements, joint field campaigns, as well as modelling of radiative and turbulent regimes in forests and SVAT-modelling were initiated and/or carried out. Plant physiological models have been advanced for the implementation of stable carbon and oxygen isotopes.
30.-31.10.2002 Project meeting Project meeting in Göttingen (Topics: Discussion on site selection with external experts (Hubertus Leuschner, Labor für Dendrochronologie und Dendroklimatologie, Universität Göttingen, Martin Worbes, Institut für Forstbotanik, Universität Göttingen and Andreas Ibrom, Institut für Bioklimatologie, Universität Göttingen).
01.08.2002 Foundation of the institute The institutes ICG-4 and ICG-7 of the Forschungszentrum Jülich merged into the Institute "Sedimentäre Systeme" (ICG-V). As from 01.08.2002 TRICE coordinator Gerhard Helle is member of the ICG-V.
25.07.2002 Project meeting

Project meeting in Göttingen (Topics: Sampling strategies, adjustment of methods, discussion on advancement of modelling activities and isotope measurements).

02.05.2002 Field campaign Field campaign near Oberammergau, Bavaria (spruce)
April 2002 O. Panfyorov gave a talks on "Correction of Source didtribution function for the 3-D footprint modelling" and "Application of 3-D numerical model of atmospheric boundary layer for the estimation of footprint" at EGS Gen. Assem. XVII, Nice.
